Etching with monoprint technique, 12x12”, Fall 2018
ABOUT & PROCESS:
I’ve always thought doilies looked like spiderwebs, so I created a scenario where they were. This print is the combination of etching & monoprint techniques featuring a spider with a geode bum and a doily web.
The copper plate was sanded down and reused from a past project, leaving behind some background noise. From there I etched away around the silhouette of the spider, which requires a long 24 hour acid bath. I then etched the image and filed down the edges so they don’t cut me or the paper in the printing process.
